{"id":104317,"date":"2024-03-14T01:31:14","date_gmt":"2024-03-14T01:31:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mlbhi.aweu.info\/?p=104317"},"modified":"2024-03-14T01:32:41","modified_gmt":"2024-03-14T01:32:41","slug":"red-sox-trade-proposal-would-steal-pitching-target-from-yankees-hong-nhung","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nflquynh.aweu.info\/red-sox-trade-proposal-would-steal-pitching-target-from-yankees-hong-nhung\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Sox Trade Proposal Would Steal Pitching Target From Yankees"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"post-featured-container-id\">\n<p>Getty\u00a0Boston Red Sox CEO Sam Kennedy has been urged to do more to improve the roster before the 2024 season.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The\u00a0Boston Red Sox\u00a0had been hearing cries for\u00a0more blockbuster acquisitions this offseason\u00a0since well before rival New York Yankees\u2019 pitcher Gerrit Cole suffered an injury that will\u00a0keep him off the field for \u201cone to two months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/GettyImages-1199719681_5e7acc-e1710357521987.jpg?quality=65&amp;strip=all&amp;w=780\" alt=\"Red Sox Trade Proposal Would Steal Dylan Cease From Yankees\" width=\"641\" height=\"361\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But now that the Yankees are in the market for a pitching acquisition \u2014 with\u00a0USA Today\u2019s Bob Nightengale reporting\u00a0that they have renewed negotiations for Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease \u2014 the Red Sox might have new reason to jump in and steal New York\u2019s trade target away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt can be argued that no team in the majors needs pitching more than the Boston Red Sox,\u201d\u00a0Zachary Rotman wrote for FanSided. \u201cWhat the Red Sox really should do is go out and sign one of Blake Snell or Jordan Montgomery, but with the Red Sox pinching for every penny, who knows if that will happen. Instead, they can get Cease who is only making $8 million this season, and really upgrade their rotation for the next two years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rotman proposed that the Red Sox send Ceddane Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, Nick Yorke and Tanner Houck in a four-player package that nets Cease in return.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe White Sox would probably ask for one of Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony or Kyle Teel, but chances are Boston won\u2019t give any of those top three prospects up,\u201d he added. \u201cEven with that being said, the Red Sox can put together a competitive package.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Dylan Cease Would Instantly Improve the Boston Red Sox Pitching Rotation<\/h2>\n<p>A lack of starting pitching talent seems to be the most concerning issue with the projected 2024 Red Sox roster.<\/p>\n<p>After losing free-agent acquisition Lucas Giolito to a\u00a0season-ending elbow injury\u00a0before he ever took the mound, the\u00a0Red Sox project to\u00a0go with a starting staff led by Brayan Bello, Nick Pivetta and Kutter Crawford.<\/p>\n<p>The 24-year-old Bello looks set to be a staple of the rotation for years to come after earning a\u00a0six-year, $55 million extension. He\u00a0pitched for\u00a0a 4.24 ERA in 157 innings in his first full big-league season last year.<\/p>\n<p>Pivetta is a seven-year MLB veteran who bounced back after returning from a relegation to the bullpen last season,\u00a0ending the year\u00a0with a 4.04 ERA in 142.2 total innings. And Crawford\u00a0pitched for a career-best\u00a04.04 ERA in 129.1 innings last season.<\/p>\n<p>Cease, meanwhile,\u00a0flashed the makings of a franchise ace\u00a0in 2022 with a 2.20 ERA in 184 innings, earning second-place in the Cy Young Award running. His numbers weren\u2019t as impressive in 2023, as his ERA grew to 4.58, but he still demonstrated elite stuff.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>The Boston Red Sox Can Leverage Some Prospect Depth for a Blockbuster Trade<\/h2>\n<p>Though the Red Sox would retain their most prized youngsters in Rotman\u2019s projected trade, they would also be giving up a lot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCeddanne Rafaela is a top 100 prospect according to MLB Pipeline and is MLB-ready,\u201d Rotman noted. \u201cHe\u2019d be the headliner. Another MLB-ready player could be thrown into the deal in Wilyer Abreu. Nick Yorke gained a ton of hype last season and would be a strong third piece.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Houck\u2019s big-league staying power is a little more uncertain. In four seasons with the Red Sox, he\u2019s\u00a0maintained a 3.86 ERA across 41 starts and 16 finishes, vacillating between the rotation and relief corps.
