The precise player(s) Minnesota is targeting is not public knowledge, though given their current draft position (No. 11 overall) and potential trade partners, former Michigan quarterback\u00a0J.J. McCarthy Opens Up Interesting Possibilities for Vikings<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/mccarthy-maye-1.jpg?quality=65&amp;strip=all&amp;w=782\" alt=\"J.J. Mccarthy, Drake Maye\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Commanders\u2019 visit with McCarthy is a less concerning development than the Giants\u2019 apparent interest for multiple reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Washington is almost certain to take a quarterback at No. 2 regardless, given the team\u2019s decisions to trade 2023 starter\u00a0Sam Howell\u00a0to the\u00a0Seattle Seahawks, let\u00a0Jacoby Brissett\u00a0leave for what appears to be a bridge starting gig with the\u00a0New England Patriots\u00a0in 2024 and sign\u00a0Marcus Mariota\u00a0as a likely backup to a rookie QB next season.<\/p>\n<p>As such, the Commanders choosing to draft McCarthy second would merely drop either\u00a0Jayden Daniels\u00a0or\u00a0Drake Maye\u00a0out of the top three, making one of those players potentially available to Minnesota should the team trade up into the top five for a quarterback.<\/p>\n<p>It is possible that either Daniels, Maye or both are higher on the Vikings\u2019 draft board than is McCarthy, while both are likely viewed as similarly strong prospects. Minnesota made a deal to acquire the\u00a0Houston Texans\u2018 23rd selection in this year\u2019s draft, and most analysts expect the Vikings to package those two picks (Nos. 11 and 23) \u2014 as well as possibly a future first-rounder \u2014 to trade up. The\u00a0Los Angeles Chargers\u00a0are the most likely trade partner at pick No. 5, while the\u00a0Arizona Cardinals\u00a0are also a possibility at fourth overall.<\/p>\n<p>The Cardinals have a real need at wide receiver and can draft\u00a0Marvin Harrison Jr.\u00a0fourth, who projects as a potentially generational talent. The Cardinals may not be willing to move down seven spots with the Vikings.
