Perhaps it has to do with him being the most similar to Daboll\u2019s former pupil, Allen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daboll got the job with the Giants largely thanks to his work developing Allen into one of the league\u2019s best quarterbacks. Allen, the seventh player drafted in 2018, became a Pro Bowler in 2020 when Daboll still served as offensive coordinator for the\u00a0Buffalo Bills.<\/p>\n<p>The chance to\u00a0work with another Allen\u00a0might, as Raanan put it, \u201cforce New York to mortgage part of its future in order to address the most important position on the roster.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Giants Would Pay Heavy Price to Draft Drake Maye<\/h2>\n<p>Getting in position to select Maye would likely require the Giants trading up from the sixth spot in the opening round. Fortunately, there are potential trade partners, notably the\u00a0New England Patriots, who own the third-overall pick, but have already declared themselves\u00a0open for business.<\/p>\n<p>The Giants striking a deal with the Patriots for Maye is a familiar theme. On Friday, April 5,\u00a0Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports\u00a0reported \u201cone league source said he believes that if Maye somehow gets past the Washington Commanders at No. 2 \u2014 which is far from a certainty \u2014 the Giants would consider making an aggressive offer to the New England Patriots to move up from No. 6 to No. 3 to draft him. It\u2019s not clear if New York would be willing to do the same for LSU\u2019s Jayden Daniels or Michigan\u2019s J.J. McCarthy, the other two top quarterbacks likely to be available at that spot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a plausible scenario for the Giants, but a costly one. Raanan revealed how \u201csomething in line with pick No. 6 in this year\u2019s draft and either a first- or second-round pick next year to enter the conversation at picks Nos. 3 or 4. Even that is not believed to be enough for the New England Patriots\u2019 pick at No. 3.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s even a \u201cso-called \u2018QB tax\u2019 that the Arizona Cardinals would get for trading the No. 4 pick to a quarterback-hungry team,\u201d according to Raanan.<\/p>\n<p>The price is high, but there is no getting around paying over the odds to upgrade football\u2019s most important position. What Daboll did for Allen might be enough to convince the Giants to pay up.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Josh Allen Comparisons Should Tempt Giants<\/h2>\n<p>Incredible natural arm talent, useful mobility and a knack for making plays off script define Allen\u2019s game. Those same traits are evident to anyone who\u2019s seen Maye operate.<\/p>\n<p>Plays like this left-handed touchdown pass against Pittsburgh, highlighted by\u00a0The 33rd Team\u2019s Ian Valentino, show how Maye is able to turn even a broken play into something special.<\/p>\n<div id=\"0f0bd74bff5cf9d940c9dbab7b0a12a2\">\n<article>Drake Maye throws a left-handed touchdown!<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<p>The 21-year-old made all the throws pro teams want to see during his time at North Carolina, but Maye also proved effective as a runner. At\u00a06-foot-5 and 220 pounds, he\u2019s a similar physical specimen to\u00a06-foot-5, 237-pounder\u00a0Allen.<\/p>\n<p>Like the latter, Maye will use his mobility to get out of bad situations and punish defenses playing man coverage, something illustrated here by\u00a0Taylor Kyles of Patriots on CLNS.<\/p>\n<div id=\"282e2030123e378a3b79229f7200c04f\">\n<article>\n<div>\n<p>Drake Maye\u2019s mobility, ability to make rushers miss, and sense for when to scramble consistently made up for his hasty processing and meh supporting cast<\/p>\n<p>Gonna be a nightmare to play man against if he can get the accuracy under control<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<p>Daboll created situations for Allen to gash defenses with his legs in Buffalo, and he\u2019d do the same for Maye. Already knowing how to get the best out of a mercurial physical talent makes daboll and the Giants arguably the best fit for Maye.<\/p>\n<p>Trying to bring\u00a0Daniel Jones\u00a0up to Allen\u2019s level hasn\u2019t worked, but Maye would have greater upside.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Getty\u00a0There&#8217;s a strong belief the New York Giants want a 2024 NFL draft QB because of his similarities to Josh Allen.
